 "Look, I don’t like interviews, but my publisher insisted—so make it short and sweet."

Interviewer: "Can I get a quote from you to start?"

Youngcliff: "Fine. I think it’s dumb when reporters ask me to explain my writing philosophy. Truth is, I don’t have one. In every story, I leave behind a piece of who I am. So, just read my work and spare me the worn-out rhetorical questions."

James O. Youngcliff is as reclusive as he is candid, particularly when discussing his craft. He refuses to intellectualize his process, dismissing industry formalities with biting humor:

Youngcliff: "The literary world loves to define everything, box it up, and archive it in the anuses of posterity. That stinks, and it’s not where I want to live!"

Youngcliff: "Sorry, gotta go," he smirked. "Write down an idea for another story. We’ll finish whatever this is… another time."
